What is Sage (Salvia)?
Sage is a low growing herb that looks stunning in almost any garden setting, whether Mediterranean, cottage, elegant or coastal. It is also ideal for a courtyard garden, or in a pot on your patio.
Classic (common) Sage is a silvery green colour and looks great mass planted around citrus.
Culinary Uses for Sage (Salvia)
This gorgeous herb is often used in European, Mediterranean, Mexican and middle eastern cuisine. We love it paired with other herbs, garlic and onions in stuffing, or with pasta in burnt butter sauce.
Growing Conditions - Sage
Sage prefers full sun and will grow to about 50 cm high and 30 cm wide. It is really important that it is planted in free draining sandy loam as it hates wet roots. This easy-care plant is a drought tolerant herb and will also survive a light frost and light wind. Plant in spring, summer or autumn but remember to protect young plants from slugs and snails.
Cabbage, Beans, Carrots, Rosemary are good companion planting options.
