HERB-THYM-3-4Regular price $25.00
Urban Bounty Pizza Thyme is the perfect ground cover or border plant. It looks bright and green all year round, does a great job suppressing weeds and tastes great in your Italian dishes!
To get started, we recommend that you plant more than one Pizza Thyme plant, so we sell them as a set of 8, as well as individually. We also sell Pizza Thyme plants as part of our ground cover mixes. Plants come in 9.5 cm pots.
What is Pizza Thyme?
Pizza Thyme is an evergreen, low growing herb. Its leaves are darker green, larger and glossier than regular creeping thyme. It is ideal for almost any style of garden from elegant, cottage, coastal and Mediterranean spaces to potted apartment gardens. Try it as a lawn substitute, ground cover, or between stepping stones. It will help keep the weeds under control and has lovely pink flowers that attract helpful pollinating bees to your garden.
Culinary Uses for Pizza Thyme
The flavour of Pizza Thyme is like thyme with a hint of oregano. Like its name suggests, the leaves can be used as a garnish on pizzas or in pizza sauce. The leaves and blossoms can be used in teas, as part of a bouquet garni, with sautéed mushrooms and balsamic, or paired with roasted stone fruit in a dessert.
Growing conditions - Pizza Thyme
Easy-care Thyme loves full sun and is happy in most free-draining soils (even poor ones!) Once established, it will tolerate a light frost, drought or the wind. It grows to about 10 cm high, but does spread, so plant it with room between seedlings, and in a space where this doesn't matter.
Plant Pizza Thyme from early spring through to the end of summer. Companion plant cabbage, tomatoes or aubergine nearby.
We use an overnight courier and specially designed packaging so that your plants arrive in the best condition possible. See our postage table for shipping information.
